Jill Marie Weykamp (Slane), age 62 of Grand Rapids, MI passed away Saturday, September 30, 2023 after a long and courageously waged battle against cancer. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David G. Weykamp; parents Theodore C. and Letha M. Slane (SeGraves); and father-in-law, Gerard Weykamp. Jill fiercely loved her sons, Anthony D. and Nicholas C. Weykamp, who survive her with heavy hearts. She is also survived by her sister, Julie and Jim Strobridge (Lindsay, Beth and Mark Steenland); brother, Brian and Elizabeth Slane (Daniel and Bethany Slane, Shawn and Amanda Slane); mother-in-law, Anita Weykamp; and brothers- and sisters-in-law Kathy and David Erdmans (Matt, Michael), Rob and Helen Weykamp (Aliina and Reilly O’Toole, Lydia, Alex), Ann and Ed Olmeda (Lauren and Ben Moore, Thomas, Caroline), Greg and Kathy Weykamp (Thomas, Ginny who are also Jill’s beloved Godchildren). Jill is also survived by many cousins on all sides of the family, with whom she kept in close contact.
Jill was a 1979 graduate of Wyoming Park High School and a proud Michigan State University alumni. She worked for many years at Bissell, Inc., having retired in 2022. She was an accomplished artist - a natural talent inherent in her Irish ancestry and shared by her boys and extended family. She touched so many lives and was blessed with many lifelong friends: her BFF’s Cindy Tafelski, Jana Kuiper, Sue Lamos; her “Bob’s” group; cheerleader friends from junior high and high school; coworkers at Bissell; and her wonderful neighbors in the Cheshire neighborhood.
Jill’s smile never wavered - in celebration or sorrow. She was courageous in the face of adversity, seeking only to protect her loved ones. Her gentle heart and generous spirit will be sorely missed and never forgotten.
