Joan Koetje, nee Kortman, age 93, heard, "Well done good and faithful servant,” on November 18, 2025, as she stepped into her new room in glory prepared for Joan by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Second, only to her love for Him, was Joan's joy in serving her family. She was preceded in death, by her husband, Jim of 63 years; an infant daughter, Karla Kay; great-grandchildren Nathaniel James Ehnis and Skylar Ann Krikke.
She will lovingly be remembered by her children Larry and Ida Koetje, Sheryl and Vic Schut, Linda and Brent Mulder, Karla and Doug Bandstra, Carol and Bryan Nyeholt, Penny Raap and Jason Quigno; 18 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and one arriving April of 2026; brothers- and sisters-in-law Annette Koetje, Henry and Harriet Koetje, Audrey Kortman, Nella and Glenn Niezink; and many nieces and nephews.
Joan and Jim were a strong team, whether they were working outside together, caring for the many foster children that stayed at their home, or praying daily for their children, grandchildren, family and friends. Joan’s servant heart was a blessing to her family and all who knew her. She loved to help iron clothes, wash windows, make applesauce, or can seasonal fruits and veggies with any of her children. Joan shared her most loved cinnamon roll recipe with all of her girls as she taught them each how to make them. She volunteered at school, church, and traveled many miles to help out on multiple mission trips. The family is so grateful for the compassionate and loving care that Waterford Place-Memory Care and Faith Hospice provided for Joan. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Sunset Legacy Foundation - Waterford Place.
