Johanna was born April 1, 1926 in Orange City, Iowa, to Nettie and John Fedders. They had six children. When Jo was 12, her father passed away. Her mother remarried Dick Ver Doorn who was a wonderful stepfather to their family. Jo was the only one to graduate high school and college. She became a teacher and taught first through eighth grades in a one-room schoolhouse. She learned to play the saxophone, French horn, organ, and piano. She met Frank and they were married in 1948. They lived on a dairy farm in Iowa until they moved to Hudsonville, Michigan in 1969 and continued to raise their family there. Jo was a wonderful mother, grandma, cook, homemaker, and friend. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They loved to play card games especially Skip-Bo with her and grandpa and eat grandma’s cookies. Jo and Frank served the Lord for many years at Grand Rapids First Church and had many friends there.
A time for relatives and friends to meet with Johanna’s family will be held from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Wellspring Church, 4466 Bauer Rd., Hudsonville, Michigan. A memorial service will follow at 2:30 p.m.
