John was a kindhearted and hardworking man with a sense of humor that was second to none. He was an incredible person and a blessing in everyone’s life that he touched. He received his high school diploma from Rogers High School in 2003 at the age of 40 while working a full-time job to set the example for his kids that education is important and hard work pays off. He proceeded to work faithfully as a custodian in the Wyoming Public Schools district for 23 years before retiring in August of 2022. He loved bowling, shooting guns, and tinkering with electronics. But most of all, he loved his family.
He is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Jim Olsen and granddaughter, Isabella Farris. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Tracy Farris; children Josh (Alyssa) Farris and Lindsey (AJ) Brooks. He will also be greatly missed by his parents Don and Lee Farris and Linda Olsen; brother, Jim (Karen) Farris; sister-in-law, Melissa Spriggs; grandchildren Cameron and Henslee Farris; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Woodview Christian Church – 3785 Woodview Ave. SW, Wyoming, MI 49509 on November 25, 2023. Visitation will be at 12 p.m. and service will be at 1 p.m. Pastor Chris Pannell will be officiating and Cook Funeral Home in Grandville will be handling memorial service arrangements. There will be light refreshments following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Resurrection Life Church in support of their House of Hope. John was passionate about helping women and children exploited by human trafficking and the family would be extremely appreciative of any support provided to this organization. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their guest book online.
