After a courageous fight, John "Jack" Koster of Hudsonville, entered his heavenly home July 8, 2024 at 79 years of age. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Winnifred Koster; sister, Sharon Deemter; nephew, Dann Deemter; in-laws Andrew and Maria Smidts; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Spitsbergen.
Graduating in 1963 from Lee High School (go Rebels), Jack was soon hired by GM in their tool and die apprenticeship program and worked there 36 years. Once retired, he enjoyed traveling, working in his yard, woodworking, riding his motorcycle, spending time with his happy hour buddies, and following NASCAR.
His greatest joy, however, was being a papa and spending time with his grandkids. He was so proud of each one. The fruits of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22 are love, joy, peace, goodness, and faithfulness. The depths of these fruits, of Jack’s capacity for love in particular, was never more apparent than when he was with his grandkids.
Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Jane (Smidts); son, Kevin Koster; daughter, Kristin (Bryant) Huyser; and grandchildren Eli and Joey Huyser and Kaitlin, Cassie, and Kyra Koster. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Dan Spitsbergen; several nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Jack will be missed terribly, but we can be comforted in the promise presented to us in Acts 2:24, “But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.” There is great peace in this promise knowing we will reunite with him again.
A time to visit with the family will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Cook Funeral Home (West Building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville.
