

John D. Stark, age 91, of Wyoming, Michigan, formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa went to be with his Lord on Thursday, March 17, 2011. John was born May 6, 1919 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a hard worker as a young boy and told stories of his walking miles to caddy for a few cents. He also played basketball in school and had a short stint as a professional boxer. He served in the Army in WWII as a First Sergeant. He met Lois Newman in 1946 and married her a few weeks later. He graduated from Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa and took a teaching position in Storm Lake. He later received his Masters degree in Greeley, Colorado. He was instrumental in building great young people who learned American History, Industrial Arts and driving techniques in his classes.
Around Storm Lake he was known as 'John the Painter' because of his very successful summer career of house painting. He was also an active member in his church. After retiring, he and his wife spent many years wintering in Las Vegas and visiting their children and grandchildren who were his pride and joy. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.
John is survived by his loving wife, Lois, of 64 years, daughters Sandra (Don) Frentrup and Tricia Taylor, Grandchildren Spencer (Karli) Deer, Shauna (Dirk) Fankhauser, Shelby (Tim) Clay, and Sherae (Jason) Brown, and nine great grandchildren Corey, Sydney and Callen Deer, Greta and Greighson Fankhauser, and Donnie, Timmie, Joey and Allison Clay.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and there is a memorial service on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Bayberry Farms Village. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice of Grand Rapids.
