

John was 99 years old. He was born in Woudrichem, The Netherlands. After immigrating to the United States in 1956, he made Grand Rapids, MI his home. John was a devoted and loving husband, father, and Opa. He enjoyed spending time with family, drinking strong coffee, listening to classical music, reading, and daily walks. He was loved by all who knew him.
John was preceded in death by his dedicated wife of 67 years, Diane, and son Frank.
John is survived by his sister, Willie van der Klauw, son William Viveen (Marjie), daughters Beatrice Brown (Herb), and Florence Dood (Mark), grandchildren Bill Jr Viveen, Richard Viveen, Leesa Fotis (James), Nick Brown, Aaron Dood (Lisa), Jessica Burgess-Dood (Erin), and Matthew Dood (Rachel), great grandchildren Tori, Andrew, Lexi, Kellan, Owen, Lucas F, Cassie, Preston, James, Jacob, Aliyah, Lucas D, and Zachary, numerous nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating his life will take place on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 3 p.m. with visitation beginning at 2 p.m. at Cook Memorial Chapel (East building), 4235 Prairie St., S.W., Grandville, MI 49418.
