Joyce Elnora Ensing

Joyce Elnora (Stephens) Ensing, age 87, of Byron Center, was called to her Heavenly home on January 6, 2019. She is preceded in death by her parents Forrest and Esther (Bott) Stephens; her husband of 58 years, Kenneth Ensing Sr.; her daughter, Karen Cotton, who recently passed on November 23, 2018; all of her siblings Shirley (Ernie) Cornell, Gordon (Virginia) Stephens, James (Jan) Stephens and Forrest Stephens Jr.

She will be lovingly remembered by her three sons and their families Dan (Betty) Ensing, David (Roxanne) Ensing, Ken (Van) Ensing Jr.; son-in-law, Larry Cotton; special friends, who were like family, Maryellen (Lee) Raterink; sisters-in-law Wanda Stephens and Shirley (Ensing) Jones; brother-in-law, Ron Ensing; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Joyce was very proud of her grandchildren Timothy (Shila) Cotton, Stephen Cotton, Rachael Cotton (Scott) Wadsworth, David Jr. (Meghan) Ensing, Nathaniel (Elizabeth) Ensing, Jason (Stephanie) Ensing, Catherine Ensing, Joel (Stephanie) Ensing, Emily Ensing, Kayla Ensing, Eli Ensing and seven great-grandchildren.

She was a long-time member of Second Byron Center Christian Reformed Church where she enjoyed working in the library, helping in the nursery and was active in a small group Bible study. She had a gift for gardening and loved to read - having a library of her own in her home. Family times were special to her and she would cook Sunday dinners where the whole family gathered together. She also enjoyed keeping up with extended family by attending family reunions.

A joint memorial service celebrating her life, and her daughter Karen’s life, will be held at 11am on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Second Byron Center Christian Reformed Church, 7588 Byron Center Ave. SW, Byron Center, MI 49315. Visitation will be held from 10-10:45am prior to the service.
