Kathleen "Kathy" Joyce Alberda, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, at the age of 77. Born in Sidney, Montana, on November 6, 1947, Kathy was the only daughter, growing up with five brothers, she gained a fierce spirit and a loving heart that stayed with her through all her years. She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Lorrene Brush, and her brothers Gerald Brush, Marlin Brush, and Douglas Brush.
Kathy’s family was her greatest joy. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Steve Alberda; sons Marc (Kari) Alberda and Bradley Alberda; grandson, Tyler; and brothers Ronald and David Brush. She was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews and was surrounded by friends and family who adored her warmth, humor, and kindness.
She devoted 44 years to her career at AAA Insurance, where she built lasting relationships through her hard work and genuine nature. But above all, her family remained the heart of her life.
A lifelong horse lover, Kathy found peace in the outdoors, especially at the family cottage at Horseshoe Lake. She loved pontoon rides and quiet moments by the lake, where she felt most at home. Her love for horses and time at the lake were some of her greatest joys. Kathy was always accompanied by a loyal animal friend. In recent years, that companion was her beloved dog, Lucy.
Her fun-loving spirit came alive on casino outings, where she enjoyed laughter and good company.
After a brave and lengthy fight with interstitial lung disease, Kathy passed with dignity and courage. Her family is deeply thankful for the compassionate care of her medical team and caregivers.
Kathy’s love, resilience, and joyful spirit will be remembered with great affection by all who knew her.
Visitation will take place from 4-7 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2025 at Cook Funeral Home (West Building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2025, with visitation beginning at 2 p.m. at Cook Memorial Chapel (East Building) in Grandville.
