Kenneth W. Frye

Dr. Kenneth W. Frye, age 84, of Byron Center. Dr. Frye was a family physician in Byron Center for 45 years. He was born in Stanwood, MI in 1925 to Harry and Gladys B. Frye. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and remained lifelong friends with the OLTs members of the flight cadet training group. He then attended college at Ferris State in Big Rapids followed by Medical School at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating in 1951. Dr. Frye was a founding member of Grand Rapids Osteopathic Hospital, and served on staff at Metropolitan Hospital until his retirement. He loved art, architecture, painting, playing music and flying. He flew his private plane on a medical mission to Chihuahua, Mexico with DOCARE. Dr. Frye was active in the community; serving on the school board and as team physician for Byron Center Public School for many years. Although he suffered from memory loss in his recent years, he still enjoyed playing the piano, especially pieces he had learned as a young man.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Joan Trenary and his two brothers Gordon and LaVoy Frye. Surviving, and left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Alice; daughters Dr. Joyce Frye Doug Ross, Deborah Brian Dobry and Linda Scot Weesies, and he will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Ian, Aleck, Sebastian, Annabelle and Jack.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday with visitation one hour prior to the service at Cook Funeral Home in Byron Center, 2067 – 84th St. SW. Interment will be at Winchester Cemetery.
