KENNETH CAMPBELL LANE A champion has completed his earthly mission, but his legacy will live on forever. Kenneth C. Lane, 89, of Hudsonville, passed away on January 20, 2015. Ken was born To Forrest and Birdie Lane on August 27, 1925, in Hastings, Michigan. He graduated from Hastings High School as a star athlete. After graduation, he worked assembling 5 mm missiles that were being used in World War II. He disliked the assembly line, so he volunteered for submarine duty in the Navy. As a master in Morse code, Ken qualified as a radioman on the USS Threadfin Submarine during WWII. After the war, he played Bronco basketball and earned his teaching degree from Western Michigan in 1950. The next day he married the love of his life, Marcia P. Johnson. They celebrated their love for over 64 years and were blessed with three children: Kendra (Jim) Simon, Susan (Gene) Robinson, and Bill (Mary) Lane. From 1950-59, Ken taught and coached at New Troy, then Charlotte High School. In 1959 he was hired as the Director of the Godwin Physical Education Building in Wyoming, MI. The position evolved into GRAET, Godwin Regional Adult Education and Training, adult and community education. Ken and Marcia enjoyed membership at Sunnybrook CC for 47 years and spent many winters golfing and living in Sebring, FL. He loved his Tigers and Spartans.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jason (Renee) Robinson, Branden Lane, Shana (Brian) Holda, and Dana (Matt) Roefer, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who were very dear to Ken. His sister, Betty (FO) Barr preceded him.
