Kim Donald Rush, age 74 of Byron Center, was called home to rest in the arms of the Lord, finding eternal peace, on December 9, 2025, in Sarasota, Florida. Though we mourn Kim’s passing, we rejoice in the promise of a heavenly reunion.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 21 years, Janet Rush. He was a loving father to Louie and Laura Rush, and Jessie Rush; and a wonderful stepfather to Sarah and Dana Snider, and Amy and Christopher Zurawic. Kim was also a devoted grandfather to Dominic Kacos, Kaylee and Madison Rush, Emma and Lucy Tice, Brianna, Taylor, and Morgan Snider, and Elliott and Sebastian Zurawic. Kim will be deeply missed by his family and remembered for his selfless and caring nature, his witty sense of humor, and his love for the Lord.
Kim was an accomplished historian and musician. A dedicated writer, he spent countless hours researching and documenting the history of Grand Rapids. He received the Golden Olson Lifetime Contribution to Local History Award from Grand Valley State University on March 14, 2019, in recognition of his work. Kim’s love for music was also evident as a bass guitarist in both the Dirk Rivers Band and the Bad Manors Band. Kim enjoyed a long career as a painter, faithfully serving Spectrum Health for 27 years.
