
He was the owner of Carter Hardware in Byron Center for 30 years, past president of Michigan Retail Hardware Association, past member of Byron Township Fire Department for 16 years and past commander of American Legion Williamston Post. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Robert Ingersoll.
Loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Doreen; his children, Barry and Sally Lott, Craig and Kimberly Carter; six grandchildren, Robbie, Dan, Lacey Lott, Brooke, Shelby, Alexa Carter all of Byron Center; his brother and sisters, Charlene Ingersoll of Okemos, Nancy and Forrest Vanden Venter of Cheboygan, Roger and Dawn Carter of FL; brother-in-law, Charles and Irma Bartlett; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawreatha and Bob Hulliberger, Wanda and Ed Pionpkowski; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Friday 11 a.m. from First Reformed Church of Byron Center with Pastor William Fernhout officiating. Interment Winchester Cemetery. The family will meet relatives and friends Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. from the Byron Center Chapel of the Cook Funeral Home 2067 84th St..
