Lawrence Orval Shaffer

SHAFFER - Lawrence “Orval” Shaffer, born September 1, 1909 at Pricetown, West Virginia, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 9:30 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2003. He met with family members that preceded him; his mother and father, Virginia Emma Hayes and Thomas W. Shaffer; brothers, Dale, Delbert, Ray and Thomas; sisters, Opal, Ola, Gertrude and Doris.

Orval is survived by his brothers, Paul, Earl and Ernest Shaffer; his sisters, Ora Shreve, June and Irvin Johnson and Virginia Couch; his sons, Dennis and Babe Shaffer and Thomas Shaffer; his grandchildren, Terri Brower, Robert and Kristy Shaffer, Benjamin and Harmony Shaffer, Thomas Jr. and Jean Shaffer, Patrick and Eric Shaffer, Carmen Aberegg, Kevin and Donna Johnson; great grandchildren, Dakota Brower, Justin, Jessica, Kristen, Katlin Shaffer, Mark, Jessica, Brianna Shaffer, Arron Hostutler, Krista Aberegg, Michael, Brittany and Kaleb Johnson; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Mary Postma.

Orval retired from Fisher MC Call Oil and Gas Company as a field supervisor. Orval enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and the outdoors.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7 from the Cook Funeral Home, 2067 84th St. SW in Byron Center, with Pastor Marcia Elders officiating.

Interment will be in Rosedale Memorial Gardens.

The family will meet with friends and relatives on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cook Funeral Home in Byron Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
