He was surrounded by his three best friends, both sons, and his girlfriend. He will be incredibly missed by sons Dustin (Kylia) Ritsema and Tyler Ritsema (girlfriend, Maddie Sharkey); grandchildren Ezra and Egan Ritsema; loving partner, Buffy Martinez; parents Duane and Eleanor Ritsema; siblings Marc (Erin) Ritsema and Marlene (Rick) Jones; nieces Christi and Brittany Jones; nephews Alex and Troy Ritsema; mother of his children, Heather Larson; as well as all of his military comrades and friends.
Leslie was “hands down” an incredible guy. He was a father to more than just his own and had a whole ocean of wisdom to offer (of course much of it passed down from his father, Duane). He was someone who enjoyed his own solitude but could also light up a room and jive with the best of them. Les was always welcoming with new friends, treating them like he's known them for years, and treating the friends he's known for years like family. As good of a friend and brother that he was, an even better father he became. Les had more of an impact on his boys in less than 30 years than most fathers dream of having in a lifetime. Big Leslie and his boys were the three best friends that anyone could have.
The family wishes to express special thanks to all the nurses and staff at Spectrum Butterworth for their loving and compassionate care of Leslie, fighting for his life just as hard as he did.
A memorial gathering will be held from 2 - 4 PM on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Cook Funeral Home in Byron Center, 2067 84th St., S.W., Byron Center, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Leslie to Mel Trotter Ministries.
The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book on line at www.cookcares.com.
