

DYKSTERHOUSE - Lois Maxine Dyksterhouse, age 95, of 609 Lovett SE, East Grand Rapids, MI, died peacefully in her home of more than 50 years on Wednesday, May 6, 2015. She was predeceased by her best friend, Lawrence (Deck) Cooley, her father and mother, Joseph and Gertrude (Visser) Dyksterhouse, her brother Robert Dyksterhouse, sisters-in-law Sylvia Bell and Helen Dyksterhouse, her sister, Jo Anne Vander Weide and brother-in-law Robert VanderWeide. Lois is survived by her nephews and nieces, Robert (Nan) Dyksterhouse, Diane (Richard) Kanda, Cheryl (Fred) Braam, Joel (Martha) Dyksterhouse, Michael Dyksterhouse, and Dwight (Sheryl) Dyksterhouse, as well as their extended families, and many cousins and friends.
Lois was known in later life for her work as a Village Belle Realtor. During her entire adult life, Lois loved the company and fellowship of her pet dogs and treated them like they were human members of the family. Some were rescue, or to use Lois's term, used dogs, and it became apparent that while Lois may have rescued the dogs, the dogs also rescued Lois.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 21 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East building), with fellowship gathering commencing at 10 a.m. and the service commencing at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Rest Lawn Cemetery.
