Hoffman Surrounded by her family, Lorraine Hoffman quietly left this life to enter into the presence of the Lord on Friday afternoon, August 30, 2013. She will be sorely missed by her children Paul (Judy) Hoffman, Jack (Rebecca) Hoffman, Bob (Jan) Hoffman, Mary (Doug) Wolf, Janet (Bill) Benish, Tim (Barbara) Hoffman, Lisa (Dave) Van Dyke, Michael (Leslie) Hoffman, Peter (Renee) Hoffman, Steve (Nancy) Hoffman, and Alan (Dee) Hoffman. Fifty-three grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren, who all felt especially loved and cherished as individuals will also remember her as a guiding influence in their lives and will greatly miss her all-encompassing, unconditional embraces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert P. Hoffman, brother Leonard Carroll Hendrickson, sister-in-law Mildred Lower, brother-in-law James Lower, and brother-in-law Bud Glerum. Besides her 11 children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren, she is survived by her brother Robert (Joan) Hendrickson, sister Marilyn (Paul) Benes, sister-in-law Wanda Hendrickson, sister-in-law Marion Glerum, and many nieces and nephews who remember her with great fondness.
Lorraine's life exemplified the deep spirit of Christian love by truly welcoming every person she met into the circle of her arms regardless of race, religion or creed. It was always her choice to love first and ask questions later as all those who came into the family through marriage can attest. Though her legacy will last through many generations, her descendants now living will mark this day as an end to an era. We are mourning her death as we celebrate her life! Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 6, at her church, Berean Baptist Church, 1574 Coit Avenue, N.E., Grand Rapids, Michigan, with Rev. Harold Legant officiating. Interment will be at Fairplains Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet Lorraine's family from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, September 5, at the Van Strien-Creston Chapel, 1833 Plainfield, N.E., Grand Rapids, Michigan. Contributions in memory of Lorraine may be made to Berean Baptist Church Benevolence Fund. Her family welcomes memories and messages in their guestbook online at www.cookcares.com.
