Louise grew up in the small town of Fruitport, Michigan. She met her husband in 1967 and became the proud mother of her two children, Andrew Liefer and Amy Liefer, who were at the center of her life. She made her home and raised her family in Jenison, where she made many personal connections over the years. She will also be remembered by her many relatives and friends.
Louise spent decades working as a bank teller, beginning when she was a young woman and continuing until her retirement. She genuinely enjoyed her work and especially the people she met along the way. Over the decades, many customers and colleagues became familiar faces and friends.
Louise loved to travel, shop, and enjoy the sunshine. She especially treasured her trips to New York City to visit Andrew. Amy would often accompany her on these trips, and they encompassed eating at new restaurants, shopping at stores such as the flagship Macy’s store, scoring standing room rush tickets to many Broadway shows, standing in line for cronuts at a particular downtown bakery, shopping for knock-off handbags in Chinatown, and walking past celebrities, such as Richard Gere and George Clooney.
She was a longtime member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Jenison, where she was part of the parish community from its early years. Her faith and the friendships she formed there remained important throughout her life.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents John and Stella Baxter; sister, Jane Hansen; and her dear childhood friend, Judy Posobiec. She is survived by her children Andrew Liefer and Amy Liefer, along with many relatives and friends who will miss her very much.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2026, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 2700 Baldwin St, Jenison, MI 49428, with an hour of visitation ahead of the service from 10-11 a.m. In accordance with Louise’s wishes, she will be cremated, and her ashes will later be laid to rest with her parents at the Fruitport Cemetery. Instead of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Georgetown & Cambridge Manors assisted living facility (https://baruchsls.org/donate/).
The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their guestbook online.
