

SLAGTER Lowell James Slagter, loving husband, father, grandfather, age 76, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Faith Hospice - Trillium Woods. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sandra; daughters Sue (Jeff) Antvelink, Beth (Jeff) Genzink; grandchildren Andrea and Claire Antvelink, Abigail and Matt Genzink; sister Lois (Ron) Behm, sisters-in-law Delores and Linda Slagter. Sandra's siblings Vernol (Bonnie) Wieberdink and Mel (Bev) Ryks; many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by Lowell's parents; Sandra's parents, brothers Rodney and Arvid Slagter; sister Glynora White and Sandra's sister Lorraine (Gordon) Breems.
Lowell was born in Willmar, Minnesota where he attended school. He served his country in the U.S. Army. After marrying, he and Sandra lived in Minnesota where they brought up their two daughters. He was a barber and later worked as a steel building construction manager. After moving to Michigan in 1995, he worked as a landscaper building patios and block retaining walls. Lowell was a member of the First Byron CRC. After retiring he enjoyed volunteering for church ministries and building small projects for church and home. He served as a Sunday school teacher, elder, deacon and instructor for many years at Crossroad Bible. Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroad Bible or Faith Hospice.
Visitation with the family will be held 2-4PM and 6-8PM on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Cook Funeral Home - 2067 84th St, Byron Center. Funeral service will be held at 11AM Monday, October 28, 2013 at Byron Center First Christian Reformed Church - 2450 85th Street SW, Byron Center.
