Marcia attended Kelloggsville High School and proudly graduated from Butterworth Hospital’s nursing program in 1959. She held her nursing license for over 50 years. One of her greatest joys was happily caring for many friends and family in their hours of need.
On the beach of Holland State Park, she met and fell in love with Warren Plaggemars. He was handsome and had a love of Jesus in his heart. They were married for 39 years.
Marcia lived a full and beautiful life as a wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, aunt, nurse, and homemaker. But her real joy came in singing the Lord’s praises. As a longtime member of Rosewood Reformed Church, she poured herself into her love of music and children. She did this with children’s cherub choir, children’s ministries, choirs, Bible studies, community outreach meals, and anywhere her joyful singing heart was needed.
Despite the hour of day, Marcia’s iconic “Good morning” greeted all. She gladly opened her home and heart to all who needed a soft and loving place to heal and grow. Music and gardening were always a part of her life and she loved sharing that love with others. We know for a fact that she counseled many of you with her bread and butter pickles, lasagna, banana bread, and Texas sheet cake.
The fond memories Marcia leaves us with are many. Some of her favorites were camping with her sisters at the beach, holiday get togethers, cheering on her grandchildren as they played a variety of sports, any occasion that included ice cream and talking about Jesus. Her seven grandchildren filled her heart with pure joy. They shared an equal adoration for each other which will sustain them until they meet again (for ice cream).
Later in life, Marcia found love again and married Bob Boomstra. They shared eight fun-filled years of laughter together.
Marcia is survived by her loving children Lynn (Jodi), Brian (Chandra), and Jason Plaggemars; seven grandchildren Kurtis Plaggemars, Erin Plaggemars, Lilah (Alex) Bolin, Joshua, Jacob, Jeremiah, and Josiah Plaggemars; and one beautiful great-granddaughter, Nora, and a great-grandson due in July. Also surviving is brother-in-law, Elwood (Darlene) Plaggemars; sister-in-law, Esther Peacock; and many dearly loved nieces and nephews.
Above all else, Marcia sang God’s praises in her everyday life. Her wishes were that all know the love God has for each of us, and that we let Him be in our hearts.
