Mark was born on April 22, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan to the late James and Helen Risher. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Vicki; daughter, Kara (Matthew) Denhof; son, Patrick; and three granddaughters Cassandra (Trevor) Boer, Audrey Denhof, and Madelyn Denhof. Mark graduated from Redford High School in 1970. He went on to study at RETS Electronic School and graduated in the electric engineering class of 1972. Mark continued his education at Siena Heights College where he earned a Bachelor's of Applied Science, graduating in 1977. Mark worked in the position of branch manager of field engineering at Wang Laboratories, Inc. and was an information technology manager at Spartan Stores before retiring. In retirement, Mark became a realtor for Westdale Better Homes and Gardens, and he enjoyed working at Home Depot.
Mark married his high school sweetheart, Vicki Peters, on February 14, 1975, at St. Scholastica Parish in Detroit, Michigan. In the communities of Livonia and later Grandville, they raised their two children. Mark cherished time with his family and was known as “papa” to his granddaughters, who made him especially proud.
In his free time, Mark was an avid golfer and enjoyed his membership at Kaufman Golf Course for several years. Mark taught his daughter Kara how to play, and they both enjoyed playing Sunday nights at Ironwood Golf Course. Mark’s skills on the golf course came from practice, and he even maintained a well-manicured putting green in his backyard. Mark liked tools and was known for his woodworking skills. He was a hands-on learner who mastered a variety of do-it-yourself projects. Mark taught many of these skills to his son Patrick, who also likes to fix things. In the yard, Mark prided himself on having a green lawn and colorful flowers. Mark loved animals and enjoyed caring for his pets.
Mark will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A celebration of Mark’s life will be held Tuesday, September 16 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East Building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m., with a memorial service following at 7 p.m. Please share memories of Mark’s life and join his family for dessert following the service.
