Miss DeWitt was my 6th grade teacher at West Elementary back in 1971-72. I will never forget her for the way she made each and every one of us feel special. She always made learning seem fun - even rocks - when we walked to a nearby gravel pit to study them! She was a very special lady that touched many young lives.

Having Mary as a neighbor for the past 5 years has been great. She was always friendly and would take the time to say "Hi" and ask how you were doing when she saw you. She was a great woman and she will be missed.
 My deepest sympathies to her family during this difficult time. But take comfort in knowing she touched the lives of everyone she met, in some special way.

Of all the teachers that I had during my years in school, Miss De Witt is the one I remember the most. She had such a special way with kids. Her door was always open, not just at school but at her home also. I can remember a group of us kids riding our bikes to her house and playing volleyball in her back yard. And I'll never forget how she would dress up as a gorilla on Halloween and pass out candy. She also made a beautiful Mrs. Santa at the floral shop in Wyoming Park. 
 Miss De Witt, Thanks for all the fun memories.

Miss De Witt was one of the few teachers I remember from my elementary school years. I remember a time she had all the girls over for a slumber party and we slept in her basement. She was lying on the couch sleeping and us girls were experimenting with a sayonce. We had a girl lifted in the air with each of us only having two fingers under her. Well, guess who woke up? Yep, Miss De Witt. That girl fell like a skydiver without a chute. Needless to say that was the end of that. But to think I am 42 years old and I still have those fond memories from my childhood says a lot. She was a very dear woman and made her kids her life. My heart hurts to know this world has lost another wonderful person. You will be greatly missed Miss De Witt.

Miss DeWitt was my 6th grade teacher from 1972-1973. That was a very difficult year for me, as my mother passed away during that time. Miss DeWitt still managed to give me happy memories during that time, by taking me to the Holland Tulip Festival, having my sister and I over to her home, and even recommending a former student to watch us when my dad was at work at night. She was such a special person,and I just wanted her family to know that even after 35 years, I still cherish the time she took to spend with me and I was deeply saddened to hear of her passing. She was a wonderful lady.

Having lived next to Mary for thirteen years in our condo unit, I was always amazed at the decorations that would go up around her unit. Never in my life have I seen anyone so devoted to the Holidays. Mary was very special to all of us and we will surely miss her.

Miss Dewitt was my 6th Grade Teacher in 1976.
 I have very fond memories of her and the all girls slumber party we had at her house. I remember the boys from our class coming over and knocking on the windows trying scare us.
 She did make 6th grade a pretty good year.
 My thoughts and prayers are with her friends and family.

Miss De Witt was also my sixth grade teacher in 76-77 I believe.
 Many memories have come back reading the posts on here from her former students. I also remember that all girls slumber party with Pam & Cindy. Remember how the boys in our class came over and were knocking on the windows trying to scare us?
 I also remember how she would stand at the door at the end of the day and hug everyone as they left her classroom. You wouldn't see that happening these days.
 My thoughts and prayers are with her entire family.

Miss DeWitt will always be in my thoughts with fond memories. She made school fun and truly cared for those she taught. My prayers are with her entire family as I am sure she will be missed by many. Rest In Peace Miss DeWitt.
