
She was preceded in death by her mother Hazel, and her father and mother-in-law, Robert Sr., and Pauline Gilman.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Robert D. Gilman, Jr.; her children, Karen Scott Dykstra, and David Jennifer Gilman; grandchildren, Matthew, Alyssa and Benjamin Dykstra; Cate and Grace Gilman; her father Carl Marian Hammerstrom; mother-in-law Mary G. Gilman; brothers, Richard Linda Hammerstrom and Paul Joanne Hammerstrom.
Mary Ellen was devoted to her family and friends and found particular delight in spending time with her grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 29 at 1 p.m. from the Calvary Baptist Church, 1200 28th St. SE, Grand Rapids, with Pastor Richard VanNorman officiating.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cook Funeral Home west building 4235 Prairie St. SW, in Grandville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Outreach Ministries, where Mary Ellen faithfully served.
