

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Veronica Simons; her sisters Jackie Stein and Margaret Williams; her brothers John, Roger, and Lewis Simons.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 62 years, August Steffes, Jr.; her children Bernie and Joyce Steffes, Margie Steffes and Bert Jones, Terry and Dorothy Steffes, Mark and Michelle Steffes, Tim and Stacey Steffes, Mike and Barb Steffes, Julie and Dan Ball; her grandchildren Mandi and John Nielson, Tricia and Jake Burmeister, James and Shelly Jager, Ben Steffes, Stacy Steffes, Andrew and Jessica Steffes, Carolyn Steffes, Elizabeth Steffes, Kurt Steffes, Alex Steffes, Tyler Ball, Chad Steffes, Jay Steffes, Sarah Ball, Adam Ball, Andrea Steffes, Kate Steffes; her great-grandchildren Ava Steffes, Beth, Molly, and Zachary Nielson, Mason Steffes; her siblings Theresa Stein, Butch and Ellen Simons; her brother- and sisters-in-law Betty Simons, Bette Simons, Doris Zerfas, Donna and Jerry Schumaker; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Mary was well known for her creative and delicious wedding cakes for over 40 years. She was in the Altar Society and volunteered for various other ministries at church. Mary was a part of her TOPS Club for almost 50 years. She was an amazing wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma who made her food with love.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 25; Rosary will be held at 1 p.m. prior to visitation from 1:30 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 26, at Cook Funeral Home in Byron Center, 2067 84th St., S.W. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27, at St. Mary’s Visitation Parish, 2459 146th St. in Byron Center. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
