Michael Anthony Black, age 68, passed away November 9, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold A. Black and Kathleen R. Black; brother, John F. Black; and sister, Nancy M. Henriksson. He is survived by his siblings Thomas E. Black and Barbara A. Black; children Matthew A. Black and Heather Waldrep; and two granddaughters.

Throughout his life, Mike enjoyed learning and traveling, and was particularly fascinated by other cultures. He had friends all over the globe. As the eldest of his siblings, he was a pillar in the family and was always willing to lend a hand, give advice, or play a spirited game of euchre. In recent years, he had gone from being an engineer in Michigan to a retired "beach bum" in the Dominican Republic. He is greatly missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookcaresgrandville.com.

Whenever I think about Mike I’ll be reminded that I was privileged to know a person with an abundance of calm maturity, open minded in conversation (e.g. about music or politics), and a steadfast example of how to endure a difference of opinion without displaying negative emotions or an air of superiority.

Very sorry to hear about Mike's passing. We had many conversations about life in the DR whenever he visited GR. We had discussed meeting in Nicaragua in 2022. I'll certainly miss our discussions.

The day Mike came into our life, Heather and I received a great blessing from God. He was a wonderful dad with unconditional love for both Matt and Heather. His great morals and values guided us all. His witty sense of humor kept us guessing. I had never seen him so proud as the day he walked Heather down the isle to marry the love of her life. He beemed with pride when he held his granddaughter. Ballroom dancing was a passion we shared together and my heart will dance with you, Mike, forever. We will love you and miss you forever.

Keith and I didn’t know Mike very well as we had only met just before the wedding of his daughter Heather and our son Howard. We do know that Mike was very proud of Heather and was looking forward to gaining a son-in-law and hopefully in the near future a grand baby. Mike was able to met McKenzie and looking at photos he was a proud grandpa. Keith and I so sorry for your loss and we are keeping your family’s in prayers
