Michael Brian Harris, age 63 of Grand Rapids, Michigan, died Thursday September 23, 2021, with his beloved wife, Lynn, by his side. Michael was born on December 27, 1957, in New York City to Herbert and Enid Harris (nee Bernstein). He was the second of four children.
Immediately after high school, Michael chose to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Navy. He served honorably and was discharged in 1992. After leaving the Navy, he continued to serve his country in the Naval Reserves until 1998. In his professional career, he worked as a technical and proposal writer in various companies. He enjoyed music - playing several instruments, and singing. He was a people person and loved meeting new people and making friends. One of the most important things to him was his faith. As a Messianic Jew, he devoted much time to following Yeshua (Jesus). He always ensured that he was governed by his beliefs and moral compass. His greatest joy, however, was always his family. He had four children Heather, Sarah, David, and Eleanor. He loved playing games, taking the children outdoors on hikes and camping, and traveling with them. He made sure to have quality time with each of his children to get to know them and have individual relationships with them.
He will be missed by his entire family including his wife, Lynn (nee Syrjala); children Heather, Sarah (Nathan) and David; siblings Linda (John), Robert (Meri) and Doug; and grandchildren Andrew, Maisy, and Eleanor. Michael is happy to be reunited with his parents and his daughter, Eleanor, who preceded him in death. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookcaresgrandville.com.
