Mike was my best friend. We met in junior high, and have remained close all these years despite the miles between us. He was the best man at my wedding, the loyal father of my dog Tanya's son - Merle (who he delivered on our living room couch), my roommate freshman year at Western, and the first person I would call if blizzard closed all the roads and a road trip adventure to Saugatuck was in order. He introduced me to so much - John Prine, backpacking in the Appalachians, the amazing ancient dunes and sandy beaches of Saugatuck, Lake Wobegon, Pentwater, and a ton of amazing friends and family members. I deeply regret that I will not be able to be in Michigan this weekend, but please know that my thoughts will be with you all, and my memories of Mike will stay in my heart forever.

My cousin Mike never failed to make me laugh. He was a part of my childhood and young adulthood and I always looked forward to seeing him. My father and him had an understanding and mutual appreciation of each other and music. I like to think that Mike, my dad and my Uncle John are joking around and having a good time in the realms of Heaven. Deepest love to his mother, sister, brother and children and everyone else who loved him.
