She was preceded in death by her parents Cornelis and Neeltje (de Lange) Vos; husband, Neil De Haan and son, Johnny De Haan and all her siblings. Nellie was the youngest of 14 children born in the Netherlands and was the only sibling who ventured off to America after World War II. She arrived in New York on November 23, 1950 with her husband, Neil, to start their lives in America. Neil taught her the English language when they settled in Michigan, and her stories of WWII were very memorable to listen to. She enjoyed sewing for over 80 years and loved to keep things nice and tidy. She also cleaned homes for many families over the years.
Her family expresses deep thanks to the caring staff at Waterford Memory Care Place and Kindred Hospice Care. A private family graveside will be held at Georgetown Cemetery.
In honor of Nellie, contributions may be made to Samaritan’s Purse. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookcares.com.
