Nettie Honshell

Nettie, one of 12 children, was born November 2, 1932 at Pine Top, KY to John Henry and Bertha (Watts) Fields. While attending Caney Jr. College, she met a young man, Walter Honshell, the love of her life. They soon married, and headed to the University of Kentucky to further their educations. During Walter’s service in Korea, Nettie worked in a bank in Detroit and shared an apartment with her niece, Anita. Once Walt completed his service, they made a new home in Battle Creek with their baby daughter. The Lord led them to Golden Avenue Baptist Church. During this time, Nettie lost a full-term baby. This tragedy led both of them to surrender their lives to the Lord. With two more children, and active service in their church and broader community, their busy lives were fulfilling. A move to Charlotte led them to Calvary Baptist Church, where they developed lifelong friendships and continued to serve faithfully for decades. The joy of her life was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was also deeply connected to her considerable extended family, and loved her many nieces and nephews, and greats, as her own.

Nettie was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Leigh Kirsten. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 68 years, Walter; children Leslie (Dan) Larson, W. Brent (Beth) Honshell, and Craig Honshell; grandchildren Brent (Julia) Honshell, Erika (Jason) Kolenda, Stephan (Amy) Larson, Ben (Rachel) Honshell, and Aaron (Hillary) Larson; great-grandchildren Jackson, Lowen, Emma, Wyatt, Weston, Colton, Adler, Elsie, and James; brother, Simeon Fields; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A visitation for Nettie will be held 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church, 825 N. Cochran Ave., Charlotte, MI 48813. Following the visitation will be a funeral service from 12 - 1 p.m. The service will be livestreamed online at https://www.youtube.com/c/CalvaryBaptistChurchCharlotteMI.
