When I was only slightly older than Nicholas, I lost my older brother in an accident. What sustained me was a closeknit family and a faith in God. Mrs Stegeman: I was touched by your comments in the newspaper about how the circumstances of Nicholas' death were 'immaterial.' Your decision to dwell on the happy memories of your son, rather than looking to affix blame, will serve you and your family well. I never met your son before that day, but truely feel like I know him well through all the wonderful things that friends have said about him. I was at Nicholas' side at the accident scene and tended to him until the emergency vehicles arrived. His face has been imprinted in my soul since. I just wanted you to know it was a very peaceful look he had on his face.
 I also have a son named Nicholas. We call him Nick. I appreciated the nice article in the press about your Nicholas. In many ways he reminded me of my own son. As I kneeled at his side there was a bonding with him that was very special. I think only a parent can truly identify with your loss. 
 We all are blessed with the knowledge that Nicholas is in the company of Jesus. You are in my prayers as I share your sense of loss yet also am comforted that he is in the company of angels.
 I left my name and phone number with the office secretary at the Clavin Jr. High office. I did not want to interfere in your special time but if you would like to meet me or talk with me, that would be fine.

I am so sorry for the loss if Nick but we must remember that he is up in Heaven playing football or baseball with the Angels and even if he could come back he wouldn't cause Heaven is so much better that Earth and we know that he loved the Lord very much and that in the prosses of giving his organs he was able to save many lives. Dear Stegeman Family,
 We are so sorry for your loss, but know that God is with you in this time of deep sorrow. I talked to Barb Thursday and heard of you wondrous gift of life, through organ donating. That takes a lot of courage that some parents just don't have. I would like to share a poem that we recieved when we lost Cheryl: Near shady wall a rose once grew, budded and blossomed in God's free light. Watered and fed by morning dew, shedding its sweetness day and night. As it grew and blossomed fair and tall, slowly rising to loftier height, It came to a crevice in the wall, Through which there shone a beam of light.
