

Olga Luisa Mendez, age 90, died on Saturday, February 27, 2021. She was born in Havana, Cuba on October 10, 1930. She married Jose Mendez in 1949 and they moved to the United States in 1968. She was a member of the Emmanuel Spanish Christian Reformed Church of Grand Rapids, MI. She was preceded in death by her mother, Graciela Pedrero; father, Luis Abad; and brother, Luis Abad.
Olga will be missed by her eight children Reinaldo (Dialina) Mendez, Heriberto (Karen) Mendez, Mercedes Mendez (Diego Melo), Francisco (Alina) Mendez, Carlos (Mariela) Mendez, Jose (Jodi) Mendez, Roberto (Lori) Mendez, Leandro (Pamela) Mendez; 25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Olga was fortunate to be cared for at home for the last few years by her granddaughter, Alexandria Brinks. She loved her children, Spanish soap operas, Tom Jones, and the United States of America which gave her the freedom that she did not have, coming from a communist country. She always prayed that we would never lose our freedom. Vive La vida, antes que la vida te viva A ti!
Visitation will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Cook Funeral Home (West building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, Michigan. Interment will be at Chapel Hills Memorial Gardens at 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2021. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookcaresgrandville.com.
