On Sunday, October 30, 2022, Orlando “Londy” Furlo went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 95. He was born May 13,1927 in Chicago to Italian immigrant parents Pietro and Massamina (Staffa) Furlo. The family relocated to Saginaw where he later met and married his beloved wife of 73 years, Helen, who passed in September of this year. He just couldn't go on without her, so now in death, they are reunited. He is also preceded in death by his siblings Tony Furlo, Helen Perry, and Angeline Wickham.
Londy and Helen spent many years in Muskegon, MI before retiring to Pompano Beach, FL in 1993. They relocated back to West Michigan in 2013. They both loved their 20 years of sunshine and relaxing retirement life in Florida. He enjoyed listening to big band music and the singing of Frank Sinatra and Luciano Pavarotti. Londy especially enjoyed the outdoors as an avid tennis player well into his 80's! He was a proud first-generation Italian American, who in childhood, learned to play the trumpet. He later played his horn with the American Legion as well as in the Special Forces band deployed to Germany during World War II. While stationed there, Londy was called upon to play "The General’s Call" for base-visiting General Dwight D. Eisenhower. The highlight: a personal salute from General Eisenhower to Sergeant Orlando Furlo! A few years ago, he was honored for service to his country by attending an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. with his son, Londy. A devoted husband and the loving father of four children, while in Muskegon, Londy spent many years as vice president of Time Loans, Inc. and served as president of Muskegon Lions Club International. It was during these years that his children often heard, “never step on a penny, always pick it up!”
Survivors include one sister, Rose (Furlo) Pilditch, four children, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren: son, Londy (Monica) Furlo, their daughter, Lauren Furlo, and her children Dylan and Desmond; son, Craig (Jaruwan) Furlo, their children Matthew, Antonia, Sukkasem Chaladlumsakul, and their grandson, Titus Chaladlumsakul; daughter, Lesa (Dave) Dion, their children Nate Dion, Jamie (Geoff) Evans, and their daughters, Joelle and Sienna Evans; daughter, Kelley (Scott) Schaefer, their children Allison (Josh) White, and their son, Luca and daughter, Lindsey Schaefer; and many nieces and nephews.
Londy’s family would like to thank the love and support provided daily by Sunset Manor in Jenison, MI and Spectrum Hospice. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Cook Funeral Home, 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center, with visitation 10-11 a.m. prior to service.
