Dutch was the middle of seven children, born in 1925 to Paul Van Eizenga Sr. and Hattie Holgeerts, and he lived through the depression years. He also served his country as a naval corpsman during WWII.
Dutch was a devoted husband to his wife, Charlene, who predeceased him in 2012, and a loving father to his children Mark and Marcia. He had a strong faith which he continued to share with others up until the day he went to his heavenly home, where we have no doubt that he has reunited with his wife, his daughter-in-law Linda, and other family members who have gone before him.
Dutch leaves behind his son, Mark Van Eizenga; daughter, Marcia (Ken) Velting; five grandchildren Melissa Watkins, Amanda Skellie, Paul M. Van Eizenga, Benjamin Velting and Alexander Velting; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Van Eizenga of Myrtle Beach, SC; brother-in-law, Gerrit Ruiter of Grand Rapids, MI; sister-in-law, Deanie Van Eizenga of St. Joseph, MI; along with many nieces and nephews.
One of Dutch’s favorite activities was playing golf, and he continued to play into his retirement years until the symptoms of his Parkinson’s Disease prevented him from doing so. He was valiant in his fight against Parkinson’s in that he lived over 30 years after his diagnosis. He also had a strong desire to understand the Word of God and spent many hours studying and worshiping Christ through this activity.
While we will miss him and his presence here on earth, we are rejoicing with him that he is with God in his new heavenly body. “But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” I Corinthians 15:57 (NIV)
