Phyllis Lucille Vanderlaan

VANDERLAAN - Phyllis VanderLaan aged 82 of Grandville went home to be with her Lord Saturday January 27, 2001. Born December 16, 1918 in Otsego County, MI, Phyllis lost both of her parents at a young age and lived with relatives on a farm. On August 29, 1936 she married Everett VanderLaan who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her daughter in-law Marie VanderLaan. Surviving are her children Richard VanderLaan, Vonnie Carl DeRuiter, Joyce Richard Buckland, Joanne Charles Berens, Cindy Patrick Mulkerin; 17 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Marcella Richard Lisch, Gloria Paquin, Gordon Alice Gill, Mary Jack Jackson, brother in-law Robert Bennett, sister in-law Shirley Sexton. Phyllis drove bus for Calvin Christian School. She enjoyed her time with her children and grandchildren. Phyllis had many wonderful winters in Florida that she enjoyed till the end. She also loved traveling. The highlight of her many trips was to Australia to visit her brother. Funeral service will be held 11 am Tuesday at the Cook Memorial Chapel east building 4235 Prairie St SW with Rev. William Buursma officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday 7-9 pm and Monday 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Cook Funeral Home Grandville west building. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Grand Valley Health Center for their loving care. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvin Christian High School.
