Rene A. Alvarez

ALVAREZ – René A. Alvarez, Sr., age 87 of Grandville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, November 23, 2009. René, born July 14, 1922 in Santander, Spain, served proudly with the Spanish Blue Division on the Russian front during WWII. He also served in the Merchant Navy for many years before arriving in Cuba. In 1962, he escaped from Cuba with his loving wife of 48 years, arriving in the United States in search of freedom. He claimed complete freedom when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Maria; his children, Odette Bernard Loonsfoot, René Yeline Alvarez, Jr with Graciela and Sofia, Denisse Bruce Alvarez-Cappon with Bruce Jr. and Gianna; and grandson Victor Theresa Rivera with Xavier.

The family will meet with relatives and friends on Sunday from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie SW, Grandville East Building.
