Rev. Jay DeVries

DEVRIES - Rev. Jay DeVries, age 82, of Byron Center, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, November 18, 2013. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marcia (Vanderwal) De Vries; brother, Harvey DeVries; and sisters, Wilhelmina Brinks, Anne Brinks, Helen Zinger, and Minnette Ellens.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Norma DeVries (Foell); children, David (Barb), Douglas, Michael (Lynda), and Daniel (Hazel); Norma's children, Rhonda (Patrick) Ayers, and David Harris; grandchildren, Schuyler (Julie), Jill (Thomas) Berry, Ethan, Nicole, Jason, and Jonathan (Naoko), Iris, Lily, Jasmine, and Joshua; Shelby and Shane Ayers; great grandchildren, Laken, Cassidy, Brynna, Bella, Hattie, Dublin, Elora, Brody, Johan, and Ana; sisters, Margie Koetje, Jessie (Bernie) Wheelock, and Betty (George) Groen; brother-in-law, Sy (Jan) Ellens; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Jay was a pastor in the Christian Reformed Church and served churches in Holland, IA, Elmhurst, IL, Orange City, IA, Byron Center, MI, Grand Rapids, MI, and Plainwell, MI.

The funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday at the Second Christian Reformed Church, 7588 Byron Center Ave SW, Byron Center, MI with Rev. Jay Pruim and Rev. Patricia Locke officiating. Interment will be at Winchester Cemetery. The family will meet with relatives and friends on Wednesday from 3-7 pm at the Cook Funeral Home, 2067 - 84th SW, Byron Center and Thursday 10-11 am at the church.
