It’s been a week since dad has passed and I’ve had time to reflect on how great a person and dad he was.
He taught us some great life lessons that have made us what we are today.  He loved his family and was always there to help us when we had tuff times.  He loved the tigers, lions and most of all Notre Dame.
When I was six years old, dad and the Howard family took us to the old timers game at Notre Dame and we continued this tradition for the next 12 years.
He always had an opinion on the girls that I brought home and he is probably the reason I have the great wife I have today.  He told me that Regina was a winner a I better not let her go.  Probably the only time I listened.
I could go on and on and I realize how much I’m going to miss him.  I love you dad and until we meet again I will try an make you proud

My fondest memory of Uncle  Dick is reciting the Casey at Bat  poem..  Being a big baseball fan, I really loved that ! He will be missed and never forgotten. 

I also remember Grandpa having a great time dancing with Ethel at Shawn and my wedding. 

Grandpa Arens welcomed me into the family with open arms and I always appreciated how his loving and kind personality. I always enjoyed spending time with him on holidays and joining in on Tuesday night dinners. I also remember having a wonderful time with him at Shawn and my wedding. 

It is wonderful that I got to spend time with Grandpa Arens for the last 33 years.  My best memories with him are spending time with him and Uncle Craig watching Notre Dame football together.  I will miss his kind hearted personality and love for others.  I will also miss sharing a beer together, or his favorite cocktail, a Vodka Martini.  We will also miss watching Grandpa get to spend time with his family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and especially his "special friend" Ethel, whom will always be a part of our family.  You will be deeply missed Grandpa Arens!

My Grandpa was a simple man.  Few things in life he enjoyed more than a good deal. One of the things he loved more  was football, I will likely never meet anyone else who loved football so much, but was so negative about the teams they rooted for (50+ years of being a lions fan will do that to you). I will always cherish the times we spent discussing the lions in the offseason (before the actual season came and ripped our hearts out) where there was hope for a new year; the draft, the playoffs, perhaps even a Super Bowl. I will always continue to be a lions fan, but it will be different without my grandpa to write his letters to the newspaper after another wasted season or a terrible loss.

Here's to hoping for a lions Super Bowl and the "good stuff" in Heaven Grandpa!

Buddy and  Devin and I will miss our visit with you very much.  They both loved to sit on your lap and watch TV and of course the treats you gave them to. Love Betty and her boys Buddy and Devin.

Dick was a very dear friend over the years we had alot of great times together with family and friends. He loved watching his football games. Not a thing would not do for anyone was a very caring person. Spoiled Martha May would tell him not to feed her and turn around he would be feeding her. He loved all the dogs he had and loved and spoiled them to death. Hope he enjoys alot of butterscotch malts and frappies in his new home with Betty.  We will miss you love Martha May  and Ethel

Family is what I remember . Danny & Dick are brothers. 
We would always invite Dick & Betty out to visit.  We would take them to the Lumber Mill Restaurant in Muir. They always loved Grandma Arens chicken,  biscuit & gravy . This food was like Grandma made so we took many trips there over the years. We still did the same trip after Betty passed.  We even started going to Maxfields in Wyman  in which we included Ethel .  Until we meet again dear brother.


My father was such a caring person he loved going out with having a good time  ifs aasked he’d drop anything to help,he loved the notre dame, always made sure that church was a proietity no matter where he was, I’ll miss him he was a best friend craig 

The last couple of years my dad has developed a sweet tooth, and so whenever I would go I would always bring him some sort of ice cream. The last couple of months I found his all time favorite, butterscotch malts.   Hope God has one waiting for him as he enters those pearly gates 

One of my favorite family memories of Uncle Dick.  Summertime on a Saturday afternoon Uncle Dick and my Cousin, Craig would drive out to Portland from Grandville. They would pick up my Dad, Danny and me to go Fishing at Fish Creek in Hubbardston.  My Dad and Uncle Dick would fish, Craig and I would go exploring the river bank and walk to the General Store in Hubbardston to buy junk food and soda.  We would listen to the Detroit Tigers broadcast on AM Radio WJR Detroit in the car.  Uncle Dick's Chevy Impala was a floor shift automatic transmission.  It was like a super cool futuristic sports car to me.  While we were driving my Dad and Uncle Dick would add their own commentary to Ernie Harwell's play by play.  My Dad and Uncle Dick may have enjoyed a couple of cold ones while they competed for the biggest fish contest. After fishing we would end up at Grandpa and Grandma Arens house in Portland.  Uncle Dick, my Dad and Grandpa Romie would play Shoot the Moon Euchre,  Grandma Arens was always busy in the kitchen. It was such a great feeling when we would all get together at Grandpa and Grandma's house.  In this turbulent time of distance and uncertainty may the family memories we share comfort and strengthen us.

The last time I saw my grandpa the forecast was calling for rain. As I said goodbye he told me to be careful out there when it’s raining cats and dogs there’s always a chance of stepping on a poodle. It’s now a memory I will carry with me and think of him every time it rains. He always had a way of making light of any situation. 

One of my many memories of my dad is how competitive he always was. We use to go play tennis and my dad  never warmed up, always played in his work clothes and wore hard soles shoes.   I can still see him running around in those dress shoes. And he usually won!

I am glad your Mom and Dad are together again.  We have fun memories of times spent with your family.   I hope he gets to find my Dad in Heaven.  They were good friends.  My heart feels for you.

Dick has been a wonderful friend to the family and a great best friend to my father. I have very fond memories of many family get togethers, particularly New Year’s. We all love Dick’s stories. Godspeed. 

We where friends as married couples , Dick & I used to have a lent bet, whoever lost the most weight was treated to dinner in Muir. We have been family friends for years ,  But we know he is happy, but we will miss him. Hugs Monica
