
He was preceded in death by his great grandson Hunter Swainston.
He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 51 years Della; his children, Henk Annie Hoekstra, Jan Dave Swainston, Joe Marcia DeBoer, Rog Julie DeBoer, and Dan Lynda DeBoer; his 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; his sister Alice Ykema of Canada; his brother Tinus Janje DeBoer of the Netherlands; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Fanny Wilson, Gerrit Meekhof, Minard Alice Visser, Ben Annette Meekhof, Minnie Vander Ploeg, Sena Dornbos, Al Florence Molewyk and Jake Marion Meekhof; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Richard was born in Friesland, The Netherlands, on March 22, 1922. He was active in the Dutch Resistance during WWII. He immigrated to the US in 1948, retired from Kelvinator and spent many years of retirement enjoying camping, woodworking and his family. Richard was a charter member of Fairhaven Ministries.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 21 from the Fairhaven Ministries, 2900 Baldwin St. in Jenison, with his pastors and friends Rev. John Padgett and Rev. Gary Van Koevering officiating.
Interment will be in the Georgetown Cemetery.
The family will meet with relatives and friends on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cook Funeral Home, 1889 Baldwin St. in Jenison.
