

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Rose Harig; and brothers Norman and Maurice Harig. He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife of 58 years, Janice; son, Michael (Sharon) Harig; daughter, Michelle (Mike) Cowin; grandchildren Matthew and Chloe Harig, William and Jonathan Cowin; sisters-in-law Gwen Smith, Sandra (Tom) Forest, Christine (Rick) Wight; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Bob graduated from Wyoming Park High School, where he excelled in football. He continued playing football for Grand Rapids Junior College, where his team had the opportunity to play in the JC National Championship at the Los Angeles Coliseum, an accomplishment he enjoyed recalling with family and friends. Bob graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Spartan Stores after 27 years of employment. Bob was happiest when he was helping a neighbor or working on one of his many home improvement projects. He and Jan enjoyed many winters in Panama City Beach, where they gained many special friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2026, at Holy Spirit Parish, 2230 Lake Michigan Dr. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the Mass. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
