
Bob was born in Grand Rapids on October 3, 1930.
He was a loving husband to Donna his wife of 48 years.
Bob was a great father, son, brother, and a good friend to many and will be missed and loved by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Alberta Irish Huyge; an infant son Joseph Gerard; and a nephew Eric Huyge.
Surviving are his wife Donna Berryman; five children and their spouses, Gary and Kathleen Huyge, Steve and Cathy VerStrat, David and Paula Huyge, Barbara and David Whipple, and Paul Huyge and Paul’s special friend Jeannie VanAntwerp.
He also leaves 10 grandchildren who he dearly loved, Megan and Alex Huyge, Rachel, Sarah, and Laura VerStrat, Jennifer, Stephanie, and Douglas Huyge, and Matthew and Jason Whipple; along with a great granddaughter Erin Allison Huyge.
Also surviving are brothers, Michael and Sandy Huyge, Devils Lake, ND, Stephen and Beverly Huyge, Howard City, MI; and brothers-in-law, Rev. Harold Berryman, Appleton, WI and Thomas Berryman, Grand Rapids, MI; along with nieces and nephews and many cousins.
Bob enjoyed hours with many close and dear friends.
He served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was employed for 24 years at the General Motors plant in Kalamazoo where he retired in 1988.
Bob and Donna enjoyed fourteen winters in Winter Haven, Florida at Swiss Golf and Tennis Club.
Among his many passions was playing golf and he was extremely proud of his “hole-in-one” in 1989.
His golfing friends were among his most valued treasures.
Bob was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching Michigan and Michigan State football and basketball games.
But being a spectator at his grandchildren’s sports really made him the happiest.
Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Pius X Catholic Church in Grandville.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday 1130 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church by Bob’s brother-in-law Rev. Harold Berryman.
The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cook Funeral Home, Grandville east building with a Vigil Service at 8:30 p.m.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Michigan.
Special thanks to Hospice of Michigan, Dr. Alan Campbell, nurse Sue Savageau, as well as all the nurses and employees of Cancer and Hematology of West Michigan for the tender care they gave to Bob.
