Robert Wayne Meyers

Meyers - Robert Wayne Meyers, 85, of Gun Lake, Michigan went to be with his Lord on September 11, 2012 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was a World War II veteran who served in the Army in the Military Police with the 728th Military Police Battalion. Bob is survived by his wife, Marion, who was the love of his life; children Gary and Linda Meyers; his cherished grandchildren: Joylynn and Brenden Kelly and Scott and Jessica Meyers; his adorable great-granddaughter, Harper Claire Kelly, 3, who loved him and their fist bumps and kisses so much; Gale Smyth, his best friend since Kindergarten; niece Christina Trogan; sister-in-law Harriet Schippers; brother-in-law Dick and Erica Sessink; many cousins and good friends; niece and nephew Larry and Sue Foote; and Tara Wilber, whose love, help and support gave us strength. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lena Meyers, and his sisters, Dora Barron and Shera Trogan.

Robert was the best husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and is greatly missed already. Bob was a wise and helpful man who impacted many lives. A former ironworker, Bob was a building contractor who loved designing and building custom homes. His other loves included antique wooden boats and open wheel race cars. During the winter months, Bob and Marion spent time boating and living on the waters of Florida. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.

The family will meet with family and friends for a memorial service with Pastor Don Graham at the Cook Funeral Home located at 2067 a?" 84th Street, S.W., Byron Center, Michigan on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 12 pm. A luncheon will follow where family and friends can celebrate Robert's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
