Roger Clare Adams, age 89, of Byron Center, was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior after a hard-fought battle with cancer on August 10, 2012. Roger was born to John and Orpha (Boynton) Adams on April 25, 1923 at the family farm on Homerich Avenue. Roger felt the call to ministry as a young man. After graduation from Moody Bible Institute and Fort Wayne Bible College, he served as a Sunday school planter and pastor in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Having served in World War II in the South Pacific, Roger volunteered during his retirement years as an assistant chaplain at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. Roger is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Janet (Taylor) Adams; children: Paula and Dennis Rasey, Nancy and Stan Roberts, Jan and Steve Johnson, Fay and Gary Carpenter, Dorothy and Mike Adams, Warren and Ruth Adams; 19 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Anita Adams; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Orpha (Boynton) Adams; brothers: Louis and Lyell; sisters: Doris Blum and Marjorie Adams; and grandsons: Justin Johnson and Jordon Adams.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Cook Funeral Home 2067 84th St SW, Byron Center. Funeral services will take place at Cook Funeral Home Byron Center at 2pm with visitation one hour prior at 1pm on Wednesday August 15th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Faith Hospice or Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. Interment will be at Winegar Cemetery.
