Roger E. Norton

Roger Norton, age 92, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Norton, in 2001; grandson, Jack Schuyler; son-in-law, Richard Schuyler; and brothers-in-law Marvin Powell and Oscar Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Carole Norton; children Chad (Rene) Norton, Jaima Schuyler, Bei (Zapna) Norton; stepchildren William (Deborah) Shrontz, Jeffrey Shrontz (Denise Erickson), Lynne (Robert) Tarbunas; sister, Alice Powell Anderson; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Roger graduated from Cedar Springs High School. He attended Michigan Tech where he met his first wife, Patricia. Roger worked at Wolverine Shoe Company where he carried the first pair of Hush Puppies shoes off the line. Following that, he went back to college at Central Michigan University where he received his masters degree in teaching. Roger returned to the Upper Peninsula to teach math at Sault Saint Marie High School. Later, he was promoted to assistant principal.

In 2004, Roger met and married Carole. They spent their summers in De Tour Village, MI and winters in Destin, FL. Roger enjoyed golf, tennis, and card games, but most of all just loved being in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. In honor of Roger and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Harbor View Hospice of De Tour Village, Michigan, or I Understand Love Heals of Ada, Michigan.
