

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gertrude Fifer Van Gemert; his children, Charles Joanne Kroodsma, Mark Anne Fifer, and Carol David Schuiling; grandchildren, Kyle Courtney Kroodsma, Jill Nathan Peaslee, Kelly Thomas Fields, Julie Joseph Custer, and Scott Kroodsma; great grandchildren, Kaylee and Leah Peaslee, Brooke and Madison Custer; sisters, Ruth Decker, Patricia Robert Syswerda, Linda Mark Stevens; his sister-in-law, Kay Richard DeVoogd.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Wilhelmina Fifer; brother, Jack Fifer; and brother-in-law, A. Richard Decker.
Russ had served with the US Army during the Korean War, was a co-owner and electrician for Fifer Electric, and faithfully attended Berean Baptist Church. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, 11 A.M. at Van Strien-Creston Chapel, 1833 Plainfield NE, Grand Rapids, with Rev. Harold Legant and Rev. Duane Duhon officiating. Interment will be at Fairplains Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet his family at the funeral home, Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. and Thursday from 10 A.M. until the time of his service.
