Sarah Joan Sikkema

She is predeceased by her son, Gary Jon Sikkema, and brothers Louis and Arthur VanVels. Sarah is survived by her daughter, Sheryl Sikkema Arp; son-in-law, Thomas Arp; grandson, Nicolas Arp; brothers Alex (Vera) VanVels, Ted (Nancy) VanVels; sister-in-law, Barbara VanVels; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Sarah was born and raised in Tallmadge and graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School. She raised her family in Byron Center and later lived in Wyoming and the Grand Rapids area. She worked for many years as a medical transcriptionist, most recently at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services, well into her 80s. Sarah enjoyed reading, traveling, shopping, swimming, gardening, and music; she sang in the Calvin College “Messiah” in years past. Sarah will be missed.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East Building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418, with visitation from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to service. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their guest book online.
