Sharon will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years, Charles Porte; her children, Paula (Tom) Vanderzee and their children, Kyle (Joanna), Christopher, Mitchell and Trevor Vanderzee, Rev. Jeff (Terri) Porte, and their children Michael, Alex, David and Anna Porte; her daughter-in-law, MaryLynn Maly and her children, Sarah, Matthew (Gabrielle), and Bradley Brummel, Angela and Dimitri Maly; her brother, James Wickstra; and her sister-in-law, Barbara Jean Louters.
Sharon was born in Hart and has lived in various places throughout the years including California, Shelby, Traverse City, and Grandville, MI. She was passionate about her relationship with her grandkids, kids and her friends. She served in the different churches she was a part of as Junior Choir Director, choir member, Sunday School teacher, Children in Worship leader, flower committee and the decorating committee. She served as President for one year and was on the board for eight years with Reformed Church Women. Sharon helped with the Red Cross Blood Bank. When her work was done, she loved to read. Chuck and Sharon spent relaxing days on the beach with a couple of chairs and umbrellas and a box of books. Her love for books also led her to be on the library board in Shelby. Another hobby she always enjoyed was decorating.
A time for relatives and friends to visit with Sharon's family will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 PM Sunday at First Reformed Church of Grandville, 3060 Wilson Ave. Memorial services will be held 2 PM Monday at First Reformed Church of Grandville. Rev. Steven VanderMolen will be officiating.
In honor of Sharon, contributions may be made to Grandville First Reformed Church Scholarship Fund or InterVarsity Christian Fellowship of Grand Rapids. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guestbook online at www.cookfamilycares.com.
