Steve was the most postive man! He never had a negative thing to say about anyone or anything. There were times when I knew things were not going well, but when speaking to Steve, you came away with the impression that it couldn't be better. 
 He was always inquiring how the girls were doing, and loved to hear news about Kelsey and the rest of the Grandville runners. 
 I've missed seeing him weekly with the 'green folder'..
 He will be missed.

I would like to express my Condolences forStephen Cappon.I woul like to know if Steve went to Grandville High School?if so I graduated with Steve.Steve and I were the same age.I'm so sorry to hear that he passed away.You're family will be in my prayers.

Coach Dudas called me with the news today. he had trouble contacting me so did not hear until August 23
 Steve was a great inspiration for me growing up. I was a freshman on the track team when Steve was a senior. Steve was winning every race he ran back then, I was a pole vaulter and high jumper that year, not yet a sprinter. Like Steve, Coach Dudas and Takas later turned me into a Sprinter by my Senior year and I was winning everything by then. but never did break Steve's 100 record I might add 
 The greatests lesson I learned from Steve was that a great athlete could be modest in victory and unassumming...I think they call that being a champion. Anybody can win a race, but few have the good sense to do it with quite dignity and that was Steve Cappon. 
 There are commercials about Michael Jordan that say kids want to be like Mike. But growing up in Grandville, myself and others aspired to want to be like Steve. 
 We pass through life without realizing the impact that we have on others we barely know. I am sure Steve was unaware of the importance his dignified demeanor in victory had on so many other younger Grandville boys growing up, but he did. His life gave me a desire to aspire to great things and I can say in part I was able to get a collegiate track scholarship and travel the world as a track athlete because as a young boy I saw Steve run fast and aspired to do the same.
 The best compliment I was ever given about my athletic career was years after it was done, somebody I ran against in college told me the thing he was impressed with the most with me as a runner was the modest, quite way in which I accepted victory. I told that guy, "That is just the Grandville way." I can credit Coach Dudas and Takas and Steve for that. Steve taught us that it's the way a young man is to conduct himself when winning a race. Let the performance speak for itself...no need to be a hot dog.
 So thanks Steve for showing me the way to be a winner, showing me the Grandville way.
 I wish I could have been there to pay my last respects, I would had I known of his passing.

 I shed tears of this news and he will always be remembered and missed.
