Steve is survived by his loving fiancAC. and companion Katherine Benton; his cherished mother Sybil Thomas; his beloved children, Robin Matt Moreau, Sandi Andrew Swieter, Holly Ben Diehl, Kristie Jasen Johnson, Steven Andrew Mercer, Carrie Matt Bockheim, and Kathy’s children April Benton, Eric Benton; eight precious grandchildren; brothers, Gary Gina Thomas, Mark Xeni Mercer, David Myra Mercer, Bob Ruth Thomas; sisters, Sue Bob Velthouse, Sybil Ann Thomas, Kathleen Peter Fuller; several nieces and nephews; his aunts and uncles Lewis Nancy Mercer, Jackie Stosh Wilk, Susan LeBeous, ConnieGary Hunter, Sandy Bob Hall; Kathy’s family, Gene and Retha Buckowing, Jeff Jennifer Menefee, Mary Tony Sweers.

Steve Recently retired from City of East Grand Rapids Police Dept. and was excited about future projects he was waiting to tackle.

He was a wonderful friend to many and he will be sorely missed.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the Cook Funeral Home, Byron Center.

The family will receive relatives and friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Cook Funeral Home, Byron Center.
