I was sadded to read of Rev. Lapinsky's death in today's GR Press. I became acquainted with Rev. Lapinsky in the mid-70's when he was one of the chaplains for the Wyoming Police Department I worked as one of the secretaries to the police chief. Rev. Lapinsky was always very kind to me and I enjoyed talking with him. I remember, too, how much the police officers appreciated him--they often mentioned how much they liked having him ride patrol with them.
 May the Lord comfort you in your loss, and may you find joy in knowing that he is now face-to-face with his Savior and Lord.

I remember Terry as a first-year student at Calvin College. Since I was registrar he had to report to me monthly because he had been admitted on academic probation--he came to Calvin as an "older" student, apparently not having done well way back in his high school years. We had so much fun on our monthly visit as we chatted about how much he liked his studies and he became a very good student. He always referred to me as his "probation officer." Needless to say, after one semster he was off academic probation. When Terry served Kellogsville CRC my retired mom, Maria VandeGuchte, attended there. She could never say enough good things about Rev. Lapinsky since he seemed to enjoy the older widows and they loved his kidding and joking. I will always remember him as a joyful Christian.

Dear Mrs Lapinsky, I met Terry when I was hired by him at Commercial Credit on Plainfield. You were expecting you first baby then and we always enjoyed the progress of the baby you were "cooking" and the names- there were two names depending on what the baby looked like. I can't remember what the other was but the first choice was Lynn Marie but there was another name if she did not look like that, and Eugene Scott. Terry was always kind to all of us, and fair which is not how it turned out there. Terry left to go on the seminary then. He always said that you were the main reason he was ging into the seminary. I remember Rev. Lapinksy as the understanding and Christ-like man who served as Pastor of Covenant Christian Reformed Church in North Haledon, NJ. I loved this man. He treated me and the rest of the congregation so kindly. I still have a fancy polished rock that he gave me right before he left our church. It is polished on the inside and still rough on the outide. He told me "Jason, I want you to keep this rock for the rest of your life. It symbolizes that despite what we have been in the past Christ can make us new creations."--Jason Dekker

Dear Betty & family, We are deeply saddened at the death of Terry. He was such an outgoing person whose life was cut short. He had so much to offer yet the Lord felt to take him home. My memories of Terry are cheerful ones - his bouncing down the hallways of Covenant always in a hurry to get somewhere, his participation in the musicals with Covenant Kids - always willing to take part - he was a big kid himself, his laughter could be heard everywhere, he'd look at you over top of his glasses and he would always ask you if you were being kind, sweet and gentle. He did a lot for Covenant Church! It was good to see him again in March of 2001. He hadn't changed much. He would help us deal with the many struggles we had with parents who would not let go. He always would listen. Terry was a gentle giant. I remember him as a passionate, forward thinking, forgiving and committed man.
