Born in Shawneetown, Illinois, to Jesse Floyd Lampert and Hazel Louise (Awalt) Lampert, she was one of six children. After her high school graduation, Louise moved to Salina, Kansas, and worked in the mess hall at Schilling Air Force Base where she met her husband of 30 years, Charles Nesbitt. They started a family, moved back to Michigan, and ultimately put down roots in Jenison. Louise became a fixture in the Jenison High School band program, attending band camp each year and carrying a bag that had everything but the kitchen sink in it. She helped with uniforms, sewing color guard flags, and much more. She attended as many sporting events as possible and was given the award of “Superfan 1984” by the Athletic Department. She worked in the cafeteria at Jenison High School, and then began a career at GVSU as a food service manager until her retirement in 2006. She enjoyed doing her own home improvement projects, gardening and home decor.
Louise was preceded in death by her former husband, Charles Nesbitt; father, Jesse Floyd Lampert of Illinois; mother, Hazel Louise Lampert, also of Illinois; two brothers Thomas Edward Awalt of South Carolina, and Otis Wayne Lampert of Texas; two sisters Sharon Kingston of Harrisburg, Illinois, and Alta Ruth Moore of Shawneetown, Illinois.
She is survived by her brother, Edgar Lynn Lampert of Kentucky, and will be lovingly remembered by three daughters Kerri Thompson, Robyn (Royce) Franz, and Kristin Nesbitt, all of Wyoming, Michigan, and her only grandchild, Aaron Franz, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lacks Cancer Center or Carol’s Ferals both of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
